Macro
“Macro” explores microscopic worlds and focused observation from nature. We tend to look at the whole without questioning the intricate beauty of how its made and the complexity that makes it. “Macro” magnifies these micro worlds and tries to draw attention through elaborate enlarged views inviting the viewer to get close. It discovers textures and colors of networks and microstructures that we overlook for not getting close enough. The lines evolve to shapes and the shapes become forms and textures that become part of something larger.
Arachnid I & II
Part of the Macro Series
Arachnid I and Arachnid II are two waffle weave wall pieces dobby woven with a single warp. These pieces vary slightly in their weft materials and thicknesses, altering the way the waffles in the structure stretch and form. Also, the striped alternating colored warp was done in a way that it outlines, fills and becomes part of the structure and form of the waffles as they are woven. The warp as well as some of the weft is 8/4 cotton carpet yarn as well as thick 3 ply hemp. These pieces explore weaving as a structure at a three dimensional level.
